The Baraha Connection

Urban Linkage. Linking Neighborhoods Through Design

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

The Baraha Connection project redefines the role of a single residential building plot by transforming it into a vibrant public space. Instead of reconstructing the existing building, the design strategy demolished the structure and introduced a baraha (neighborhood courtyard/park), serving as an urban linkage between two larger parks.

The intervention creates a multi-layered public realm with:
· Shaded seating areas encouraging rest and gathering.
· Landscaped gardens and palms enhance microclimate and identity.

· Play and activity zones supporting community use.
· Pathways connecting surrounding zuqaq and reinforcing pedestrian flow.

This adaptive urban design demonstrates how small-scale interventions can enhance connectivity, improve livability, and regenerate the historic urban fabric while staying rooted in local typologies of the baraha.
